The Guelph Lab, a collaborative partnership between the City of Guelph and the University of Guelph is currently undertaking a study that explores public washrooms in Guelph - where they're located, and when they're open. 

This project was inspired by a general public desire for additional public washrooms, and is part of an ongoing conversation around accessibility, dignity, and equity in the City of Guelph. Municipally-run washrooms are open to the public, as compared to washrooms that may be available to customers only at local businesses. 

This blog post offers an inside look into Caroline Duvieusart-Déry’s experience as CESI’s Knowledge Mobilization Coordinator. In this post, she explores the benefits of building strong community-campus partnerships, the importance of building capacity in others, the ways in which she works to create and measure impact, and how she seeks to enable meaningful social change.

The Campus Food Market is back this fall! This collaborative effort between CESI’s Guelph Lab, the Arrell Food Institute, the Sustainability Office, Hospitality Services, and the Seed Guelph offers fresh fruits and vegetables for purchase on a sliding scale every Thursday from 12-3pm in the University Centre.

Communications Assistant 

CESI is excited to announce the winners of the 2022 Knowledge Mobilization (KMb) bursary! This bursary was awarded to four graduate students at the University of Guelph and covers the cost of one course in the Certificate in Knowledge Mobilization for 2022-2023.

In June 2022, CESI and the Waterloo Wellington Knowledge Mobilization Community invited local knowledge mobilization practitioners and community engaged researchers to join them at the University of Guelph Arboretum to reflect on knowledge exchange practices and approaches to engaging with Indigenous communities.

A vast amount of knowledge is created everyday, but is it used effectively? In most cases, only a small fraction of gained knowledge is mobilized to inform real-life situations and help create evidence-informed change. The lack of effective knowledge transfer contributes to a gap between research, policy and practice.

An article written on the impact of CESI’s Research Shop has recently been published in the Journal of Higher Education Outreach and Engagement. The Research Shop works with local and regional organizations to carry out high-impact community-engaged scholarship by training and employing graduate students to conduct community-engaged research.

The Community Engaged Scholarship Institute (CESI) is excited to announce the recent publication of a Research Shop project conducted in collaboration with Hospice Wellington.

At CESI, we believe that community engaged scholarship (CES) has the potential to offer high impact to both community partners and researchers and to spark positive, evidence-informed change within the community. CES is a “collaboration between institutions of higher education and their larger communities for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity" (Jordan, 2007).
