Why I am working with the Research Shop: I view my opportunity with the Research Shop as a chance to develop the skills necessary to navigate issues related to community engagement, social justice and leadership that will inevitably emerge as I conduct my MA research. In particular, I wish to gain more experience collaborating with community organizations in order to develop an understanding of the nuances associated with community-engaged work. This position with the Research Shop is also a critical opportunity to enhance my knowledge related to both primary and secondary research. It is my hope that developing skills in these areas will allow me to conduct better research in the future.
Program of Study: Through my MA research in the Public Issues Anthropology program, I intend to explore the ways in which Indigenous tourism projects in Ontario fit into wider reconciliation projects in Canada. In doing so, I plan to consider the the role that Indigenous tourism in Ontario may play in reconciling the relationship between Indigenous peoples and Settler-Canadians.
