Next-Generation Dissertations: New approaches to humanities scholarship

While long form monographs are still the norm in most humanities fields, students pursuing other structures for their work shouldn’t have to go it alone. This site hopes to make it easier. Here, humanities students and advisors can find a selection of creative scholarly projects to look toward as examples, as well as concrete evaluation guidance and resources.

Beyond Citations: Knowledge Mobilization, Research Impact, and the Changing Nature of Academic Work

This study examines and analyzes the Research Impact Network, based on a literature review and key informant interviews. It addresses keys to success and challenges associated with knowledge mobilization in order to inform discussions about how Canadian researchers might employ similar strategies in their own post-secondary institutions and community-based research organizations.

Growing Knowledge Translation and Transfer (KTT) in Ontario

This practical guide provides a collection of best practices in KTT based on research supported by the Ontario Agri-Food Innovation Alliance. This manual was developed using the data from a systematic review of project files from 88 KTT projects funded between 2010 and 2018. The document review was supplemented by a survey distributed to research team members and follow-up interviews with a selection of researchers and end users, as well as a scan of the last decade of KTT literature.

Decolonizing Community Engagement Recently, terms like decolonization and community engagement have become buzzwords in popular discourses about Indigenous health research. But what does decolonization actually mean? How can we really try to decolonize community engagement? https://medium.com/knowledgenudge/decolonizing-community-engagement-85ee3ad5369d
Promising practices and constraining factors in mobilizing community-engaged research This article describes a project involving 13 community focus groups on the topic of anti-racism and belonging where the researchers concluded each group with a robust discussion about how the group would prefer to receive the findings from the project. Analysis of this data, existing literature, and the practical experiences of the researchers revealed that while there are multiple “bridges” researchers can take to connect their research with community-level users, and although it is desirable to offer tailored approaches for specific audiences, there are significant barriers and challenges for truly effective engagement. https://doi.org/10.1177/17470161221141275
Community Ecosystem Mapping: A Foundational Step for Effective Community Engagement in Research and Knowledge Mobilization In this article, we focus on a crucial early step of community engagement-understanding the community ecosystem. The community ecosystem refers to its human, social, and cultural makeups. Understanding this ecosystem requires conscious efforts to comprehend the demography, participate in socio-cultural events, identify community spots, reach out to hard-to-access groups, find the community champions and communication channels/organizations, and reaching out to them to establish relationships. Understanding the community ecosystem allows us to identify the pivotal factors, key actors, and pulse of the community that we are engaging with. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37846067/
Examining TikTok’s Potential for Community-Engaged Digital Knowledge Mobilization With Equity-Seeking Groups This paper contributes to the growing literature on the use of social media for digital knowledge mobilization, drawing particular attention to TikTok and its unique potential for collaborative knowledge mobilization with underserved communities who experience barriers to health care and health inequities (eg, equity-seeking groups). https://www.jmir.org/2021/12/e30315/
