Karli Longthorne

Research Shop Assistant

Why I am working with the Research Shop: As a mixed-methods researcher and social justice advocate, I strongly believe in the transformative power of community-engaged research. This approach is essential in bridging the traditional gap between scientific research and the communities it aims to serve. Instead of reinforcing barriers between scientists and community members, community-engaged scholarship emphasizes developing trust, building meaningful relationships, and co-creating science that is practical, accessible, and directly informed by those most impacted. By participating in the "From Crisis to Collaboration: A Systems Change Blueprint for Gender-Based Violence Organizations" project with CESI and Sustainable Livelihoods Canada, I am committed to contributing to systemic change that enhances the effectiveness, sustainability, and well-being within organizations addressing gender-based violence.

Program of study: I am a third-year PhD Candidate in the Department of Population Medicine at the University of Guelph.
