2025 International Women's Day Conference Rooting and Reckoning: Supporting the Supporters

Call for Abstracts & Creative Offerings

For the 8th annual FREE International Women’s Day Conference, hosted by the Community Engaged Scholarship Institute at the University of Guelph, we are centering the experiences of those who deliver critical work to support underserved communities in the research space and beyond, acknowledging that such supporters may also see themselves in those communities. Rooting and Reckoning: Supporting the Supporters honours the complexities of navigating such lines of inquiry while highlighting the vital work individuals and groups are doing to accompany women* around the world.

*Women includes anyone who identifies with the gender category of woman. We resist essentialism, welcoming diverse expressions of womanhood.

We invite:

Researchers, students, practitioners, artists, and community members from all backgrounds to participate and exchange ideas about the ways they facilitate and/or grapple with rooting and reckoning in their work.

We welcome traditional, unconventional, non-normative, and emergent ways of doing, being, and engaging with research and change-making that forges a more equitable, and livable, present.

We welcome submissions for:

  • Presentations (up to 10 minutes and 5 minute Q&A): Share your research, projects, or initiatives.
  • Arts-Based Sharings (up to 15 minutes): Research-creations, performances, workshops, interactive sessions, visual art displays, etc.

Conference Date & Deadline:

The conference is taking place on March 7th, 2025 from 10:30 am - 4:30 pm.
