Community Engaged Scholarship: Critical junctures in research, practice, and policy
Community Engaged Scholarship: Critical junctures in research, practice, and policy
On November 4th and 5th, 2010, the Community Engaged Scholarship Institute (CESI) co-sponsored and hosted Critical junctures in research, practice, and policy. This conference brought together national and international scholars to discuss emerging research on community-engaged scholarship and its implications for research, policy and practice. Community-engaged scholarship (CES) and community-academic partnerships have been gaining importance in higher education institutions. At this conference, leading scholars served to identify gaps in knowledge, define challenges and develop strategies for multi-disciplinary networks and partnerships.
The conference was driven by four core objectives:
- To provide a forum for communicating;
- To create an opportunity for discussing the implications of this research;
- To foster the development of research collaborations;
- To generate greater awareness, understanding, and visibility of community engagement challenges and strategies.
The agenda featured Sherril Gelmon as the keynote speaker and four panel discussions organized around the themes:
- The Development of Community Engaged Scholars
- Structures and Policies that Support Community-Engaged Scholarship I
- Structures and Policies that Support Community-Engaged Scholarship II
- Strategies for Institutional Change
