Evidence-Based Practice and Knowledge Translation [FRAN*6221]
Summary of CETL Component:
As the central focus of the class, students planned for, developed, and disseminated Knowledge Translation (KT) products to community partners. Along with the course instructor, students collectively monitored their progress over the semester and ultimately produced three projects each: an infographic, a taped media interview, and a newspaper/blog posting. Classes were a mix of guest lectures, workshop opportunities, instructor-led discussions and in-class assignments about evidence-based practice and knowledge translation.

Course Description:
Students were required to plan for, develop, and disseminate KT products over the course of the semester. Students selected KT projects from three topic options that were developed by the course instructor, CESI's Knowledge Mobilization Coordinator and Manager of Community Engaged Learning. Limiting the number of topics to three provided students with the option to work on individual projects that could be combined into a larger KT project to more fully address community-identified knowledge needs. Topics have included (1) support and care for “young carers” (young people who provide care for one or more of their family members); (2) refugee resettlement and the long-term integration needs of Syrian refugees in the local community; and (3) consumer knowledge, attitudes, and behaviour around food purchasing decisions.
